I've been bike shopping for the past day and seen many bikes to buy this summer. I found one that I liked and I am still waiting to see it's available. Going to so many bike shops in the city you would think I'd find the perfect one. This cute bike from Electra Bike is my top pick. I'm always happy to visit Ottawa when I get the chance. Even though it was a short trip for a show I always manage to squeeze in a Beavertail! Spring is almost here and I am booking my trip to Almonte, Ontario which is 45 minutes outside Ottawa. I will be participating in the Spring edition of Handmade Harvest. Has it been a year already? Seems like this year flew by fast as always. I've been on and off the blog all year and I hope I can get back into it in 2011. I finally made it to Ottawa and boy is it freezing. I've endured Ottawa blizzards and cold weather, winter has really arrived here. I am in town for one of many craft shows I am doing this weekend and next month. It's great being back in this city and the vibe of the city has been great. I've ironed a few things tonight in my hotel room and I will be resting for tomorrow's show. I will be at the Patrick Gordon Framing gallery from 10AM-5PM for my Ottawa friends. I've been in production and sewing like crazy. November is almost over and I have a few more craft shows to go. I've finally added another Cat item to my list of other products I've made with the Cat face. I've done cards, notebooks, pillows, change purse, tote bags and now I can add kids t-shirts. They're size 2 and printed on organic cotton. If they become popular I will continue making more. I shot the picture in black and white cause it looked more vintage. I've been weening the Marc Jacobs out of my system as of recently and for awhile. I can't deny that his eye for 70's anything can make you love his collection. At Marc Jacobs he has taken 70's, Studio 54 glamour to full capacity for Spring 2011 and the styling from the makeup to accessories were unreal. I'm sure you will see the 70's trend hopefully filter through next season. As winter approaches I will be looking forward already for Spring 2011. Today Adam and I took Lliam and Piper to grab pumpkins, on the way there we stopped by Magic Pony. They liked much of the toys and colour in the shop and they mostly loved the poster art of Friends With You. Piper couldn't wait to get out of her stroller to grab a seat on the Friends With You bench that was graphic and colourful. We left as the store got busier but at least they got to enjoy some fun art for the day.

I am slowly freaking out as my trip to Montreal approaches. I am also excited and always love visiting Montreal when I get a chance. I stumbled upon some vintage photos of the famous Habitat 67 housing complex in Montreal. I didn't realize the amazing lines and overlapping of geometric shapes it gives off in different angles. Moshe Safdie the architect behind the building has lots of lines in the projects and urban buildings they build around the world. I find them very inspiring. Christopher Bailey at Burberry seems to know how to take heritage archives and give it a fresh edgy take each season. It's no different here in the men's Spring 2011 Collection where military tailoring and studded biker jackets were evident in the show. I think I saw a studded bag somewhere in this collection also. I recently took a road trip out to St Jacobs, Ontario. I was in desperate need to visit their famous farmers market. I didn't make it to their market cause they only open on Tuesdays, Thursday and Saturdays but I did manage to be touristy and check out their local village. I saw some horse carriages and local Mennonites in town but be sure to check out my food adventure on my other blog Sake + Cheese. I will for sure check out their huge market and maybe pick up a straw hat and suspenders as the local Mennonite men were sporting in town.

I am back in the city after the long weekend. I survived a major headache/heat stroke whatever it was, I can say I enjoyed the second half of my week-end. It was a lovely hot long weekend and although I did get some tanning in and some swimming (Thanks Aunt Shirley for the pool party). I have many projects to finish up. JBNY (Just Be Naturally Yourself) a label from China which just arrived in New York City awhile back had released it's Fall 2010 collection and I really love the pieces from this label. Pretty much your standard basic structured uniform. The pieces ranges from jackets, leggings, oversized shirts, jackets and bombers. The pieces from the collection are a great way to blend it in your existing wardrobe. I love the oversized shirt/dress and the draped leggings.

I took a day trip to Niagara on the Lake and Niagara Falls. It was a cloudy day but it was still fun to be all touristy for the day. There were lot's of flowers in bloom and green everywhere. Here are some of my shots from the day. P.S. it was very difficult to get my dogs to pose in front of the Falls.

If you haven't heard of Dion Lee yet, you might be hearing about him soon. Dion had just shown his collection at Australian Fashion Week and already is creating buzz with his collection. I had to see for myself once I had heard of him. I am in love, his clean cuts and use of that bright blue with black and grey is what you'll probably be seeing in Fall 2010. I can't wait to see more from Dion and I'm sure in a few seasons you'll be seeing more of his clothes.

This summer two of my good friends are getting married this summer. I've been around wedding things for the past month or so seeing my friends prepare and plan their special weddings this summer. Recently I got the chance to prepare letterpress wedding invitations for Ariana who I had met me through a craft show. We had met up awhile ago discussing her invitations and I am in the process of getting hers letterpress in the coming weeks. Her friend had designed them for her but I am very excited to print her invitations. I will give you an update in the coming weeks. For inspiration and ideas I've been scanning wedding blogs and sites. My go to favourite will always be Martha Stewart Weddings. Although she has a team of people behind her, things like colour, food and inspiration items are great while reading her magazine and books.

So I've been obsessed with this book series from Umami Midori. They mostly focus on bag patterns but I'm sure clothing would be my style also. I've been wanting this book for awhile only because of the cover. I did a flip through of the book and there's a few projects I'd like to try. They also do great accessories for the neck like scarves and necklaces out of fabric which look beautiful. Hopefully I will get to try and make some cute Japanese style tote bags this Spring/Summer!

I haven't been to Darkhorse in ages. It seems like you have to go at a good time to snag a seat. I think they need more seating if you ask me. Laptop coffee heads seem to be sitting there forever. I still love the atmosphere and coffee!

I am finally cleaning up my studio and organizing my fabrics. I've stumbled upon a piece I bought from Anabela at a Workroom trunk show awhile back. I found it again and at first I was inspired to make some cute cushions for my living room. I opted to make a great tote bag for Spring. It was hard not to make a bag out of this material. I literally whipped this up this afternoon and I can't wait to use it. I rarely make things for myself but another tote for Spring isn't so bad.

I am so excited about this book. As all of you Japanese craft book lovers know that the Happy Homemade series are mostly compiled of clothing patterns. I've been wanting the bag book for awhile and I can't wait to try out some of the patterns. There are a few cute tote bags that I want to make and hopefully I'll get a chance to make one. Another one of my favourite Japanese magazines is Smart. For a men's fashion magazine it's mostly more street wear, cars, tech-toys and street style. The street style sections are pretty great for inspirations and to see what the guys are wearing on the streets of Tokyo. Like most street style sections they list what they wear and what they have in their bag. Look for a mix of high end accessories and street wear clothing. P.S. my magazine also came with a cool duffle style knapsack.

I've been obsessed with this Motel for awhile. I think it's the chairs and the fact that it still looks like something from the 70's. If you drive along the Lakeshore you will see motels along the strip some long gone from the condo development and some that are still operating. Great for out of town people who are taking a road trip to Toronto and it's pretty close to the downtown core. I find it weird that motel culture is not huge here in Toronto/Canada since there were so many retro looking ones that could be cute boutique style. Our American counterpart down south seem to embrace motel culture both new and old and I hope one day that someone would rebuild a retro inspired one in Toronto by the lake.

I've been on this Japanese binge since I visited J-town so don't hate me for posting all these Japanese stuff. I've been collecting Japanese magazines since I was 16 and have since lost that collection of magazines from Fruits, Cutie, Smart, Figaro and Non-No. I recently been getting into them again and had inherited a collection of Japanese fashion magazines from my friend Miho. I wouldn't normally buy or order them as I used to but I couldn't help pick up the new Spur magazine with free gift with purchase, a Rebecca Taylor tote bag. I was told that in Japan that magazine sales aren't high so to entice shoppers they add on a designer gift with purchase. I don't know why they don't do that in North America because it's probably the only way you'll get me to buy American Vogue.

I've been sick this week-end and been busy with my other blog Sake + Cheese so I've been kind of away from my blog as of lately. I'm trying to catch up on some blogging and I hope you will enjoy. I recently went uptown to venture to J-Town (Japanese plaza complex) to do some investigating for my other blog. Please read our food finds from our trip at Sake + Cheese. I did lots of eating and purchasing of japanese groceries, buns and magazines. It was a fun place to visit even if it was outside the Toronto area.

I think I've finally made an eco tote design that I finally love. I was playing around with different shapes and sizes and I think I love this design the best. I couldn't help it but I had to print that cat. I used to make canvas tote bags with this print which was popular but I think this design is better and more useful for those days at the market. Watch out for this on my Etsy soon.

I got the chance to do some fabric shopping today at the Lida Bidday showroom. It was fun going through the samples that was either used or not used in their past collections. There were so many fabrics to go through and I think I narrowed it down to a few select favourites. I will post some of my picks and new stuff I make from it. It was fun making my swatch order list at their office.

I've taken a break from sewing and been obsessed with minimalism, lines, colours like black, grey and white. So this week-end style post will be a first for me. I talk about about not being into menswear but I do have soft spot for Raf Simons. Currently designing for Jil Sander known for her minimalism cuts and shapes. It's no surprise that Raf would be the perfect designer to take over. I was going through the Spring 2010 Men's Jil Sander collection and the bowl haircuts and minimal shapes bring back memories of past Raf Simons collections. I know I'm kind of late on this but I finally got the chance to visit The Room at The Bay. It was redone and carries various high end labels and is giving Holt Renfrew a run for it's money. It's simplistic white and silver chrome fixtures make the 3rd floor of The Bay airy and nice to shop in. Having Sarah Jessica Parker visit and showcasing the Halston heritage collection and Canadian model Daria in the ads for The Room also doesn't hurt either. I was surprised to see the likes of Surface 2 Air and Opening Ceremony for women there also. I was drooling over the $4000 Proenza Schouler PS1 bag but reality hit me and I had to put it down. Be sure to visit the laid back atmosphere and open shopping at The Room located at Queen and Yonge.
